Art work by Jes Durfee
Artist Statment: "I am continuing a more than 4000-year-old tradition of glass blowing today known as lampworking. A fire source heats raw color and clear glass enough to fuse together and move. I use gravity, centrifugal force and simple hand tools moving, shaping and sculpting the raw glass into beautifully finished glass objects. I am always discovering new ways of articulating my “voice visions” into these unique and fine creations! I create both functional items and sculptural art objects such as beads, animal totems, variations of plant life materials and abstract art about the mysterious great galaxy. My influences are based on the different elements of the natural world and its relationship to my Ojibwa/Finnish/Syrian heritage.
